Rocktron Banshee Talk Box Review

Rocktron Banshee Talk Box

I bought this talkbox from Musicians friend here in Kansas city and I must say I love it. No tricky set up. You just simply plug in and play your instrument. I am a keyboard player and it makes my Yamaha DX100 sound amazingly great. I like the effects that you can do with the box. In the manual it is also explained very well about setting up. If you were to read the Rocktron description, it says that you can't distroy the driver. I have even spoken to a gentlemen at the company and he has said that he has turned up his box to the maximum volume. There is one let down in this review I do want to mention. I understand that guitarists have been using this effect. That's fine. I have no problem with that. But what about us keyboardists? Professional, and or hobbiests? Everyone is looking at this and saying that this can only be hooked up to a guitar, or bass. Wrong wrong wrong! This is also a talkbox for a keyboard. I mean sure, Roger Troutman, and Roger Troutman II have had different talkbox sounds, but, Roger Troutman II used the Rocktron when he recorded the second coming in 2000. So, don't look at this box just for guitarists, look at this box for keyboardists too!

Bringing a cool, new twist to the outdated generation of complicated and risky talk boxes, the Banshee is a unique new product that gives classic rock touches to today's players. Although "talk boxes" have been used in the making of hit music (Aerosmith, Frampton, Joe Walsh, etc.) for years, many guitar players simply have not tried them because of their complicated and potentially damaging setup. Leave it to the stomp box gurus at Rocktron. The Banshee rocks, simply and safely. What makes the Banshee so unique is that it contains its own internal preamp, amplifier, and horn driver. You simply plug into the Banshee like you would any common stomp box, and run the provided "tubing" up the mic stand and into your mouth. The rest is up to your own imagination as you get the most incredible sounds from your instrument. And no more risk of blowing up your favorite amp head, (always a possibility with talk boxes of old). The Banshee's preamp section features controls for gain, tone, and output level. A wide range of clean and dirty preamp tones may be dialed in with plenty of saturation for those who desire lots of gain. Guitar World Magazine wrote: "The Banshee's high-gain preamp and focused tone control allow for excellent enunciation and sustain. With minimal practice, I was able to create clear words and open vowels, and I could readily see how anyone could become addicted to this effect." Not only does the Banshee scream in the talkbox mode, but Rocktron has also included an extra jack for hookup with an extension pedal speaker. Plugging a speaker cabinet to this output turns your pedal board into a perfect practice setup with enough volume to do some pretty serious cranking!Get your hands on the most unique product in years and let your creative juices flow! Or as Guitar World Magazine put it: "With a simple design and arena-worthy performance at a cool price, this Banshee is sure to send you screaming into the night.

Casio AD-5 AC Adapter for Casio Keyboards Review

Casio AD-5 AC Adapter for Casio Keyboards
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a very old Casio "Bank Tone" CT-636 portable keyboard. The AC adatpor was lost and I've been using size D batteries for my son to play the keyboard and that was getting expensive. Finally searched online to find a replacement AC adatpor. According to the spec at the back of my CT-636, it says "DC 9V, 4.5W, uses AC Adaptor AD-5". 9V 4.5W translates to 500mA.
I found two such AC adaptor links on Amazon. One says AC Adatpor AD-5. Another says AC Adatpro AD-5MR (9V, 850mA). Since I didn't want to deviate from the spec and the product description for the AD-5 on Amazon included my model (CT-638/CT-636) while the AD-5MR didn't, so I ordered the AD-5 (~$19+shipping) even though it was almost $10 more expensive than the AD-5MR (~$11).
The delivery was super fast. I got the AC adatpor 2 days later. HOWEVER, this AC adaptor shipped is actually the AD-5MR (9V, 850mA)!! I plugged it into my CT-636, yes, it works, but had I known they are going to ship me the AD-5MR anyway, I would've order it $10 cheaper!! So i was not happy about that.
I gave it 4 stars for the fact that it works.

FastTrack Keyboard Method Starter Pack - Includes Book/CD/DVD Review

FastTrack Keyboard Method Starter Pack - Includes Book/CD/DVD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Soul is a very deep and emotional style of music emerged in the 50s and 60s with soul artists putting their feelings and emotions into their songs, which seemed to mix gospel with R&B, to create a new sound that dominated the 60s and early 70s. Of course soul mixed with jazz creates a very unique and cool sound that adds feeling to the jazz. Three of these songs were made most famous by the jazz organist Jimmy Smith, The Sermon, Back at the Chicken Shack, and The Preacher, which are very rare to come by and this may be the only book to find these songs in. They are arranged pretty well, although the Sermon had to be condensed to 6 pages since it is normally a 20 minutes jam. Of course you have the godfather of soul, Ray Charles with What'd I Say, Unchain My Heat, and You are my Sunshine. Then you have a few my Jack McDuff, a jazz organist from the 60s and 70s. And of course you have other hits by other jazz performers, and the songs are all arranged pretty accurately in the right key, and simple enough for the intermediate player to easily sight read. If you are an organist, you will be more pleased, as half these songs are better arranged for the organ.

Electro-Harmonix Freeze Sound Retainer Compression Guitar Effects Pedal Review

Electro-Harmonix Freeze Sound Retainer Compression Guitar Effects Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The electronics is awesome. It takes a little practice timing-wise to use it like a sustain pedal for the guitar. But it works. And it's awesome. The reason why I'm not giving it a 5-star rating is because it uses the worst switch you can image. Why would they use a switch that is so small and so loud? I could hear the switch clicks from across the room. Why does it have to make any sound at all?
Here's what I did with mine (although it probably voided the warranty): Drill a 3/8" hole on the side of the case opposite the power supply. Install a 1/4" mono jack and wire the two contacts to the original switch (no need to disconnect the original switch). If the red light flickers on and off when you plug in the power it means the wiring is backwards or the positive signal is touching the case. Fix the wiring and close up the case. And then I just plug in a nice piano-like sustain pedal. Make sure you get a pedal with the contacts normally open (N.O.). To be safe, get one with a polarity switch. The M-Audio SP2 is a good pedal for this purpose.
The Freeze pedal as-is gets a 4-star rating. With the modifications above it gets a 5-plus-star rating.
The piano has had a sustain pedal since they started making pianos. I can't believe it took until now for the guitar to have one too.

Casio WK210 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation (Standard) Review

Casio WK210 76-Key Digital Keyboard Workstation (Standard)

First of all, this comes with a lot to start with. A Songbook, a power cord, and a stand for your sheet music. It has a huge bank filled with all sorts of sounds and songs, and also has many other features as well, including a sampler, which works perfectly. The USB MIDI feature works PERFECTLY, and while it doesn't come with a USB cord, they are very cheep to get. I use this with FL studio and it works very well, even the keys are touch sensitive, and the sensitivity works in FL studio. I love this product.
