Full-Size 24-Note Polyphonic 61-Key Keyboard Review

Although the higher-priced Casio wk-3000 has a good reputation, THIS keyboard (Casio CTK-593), I find is inferior to the Yamaha keyboard of the same price both in the sound and the way the notes resonate and the way the notes sound when played together or when you gradually move from one note to the other. I cannot find a sustain button onboard in case you don't have a sustain pedal. And there's no "portable grand” button like on the Yamaha. Instead, I have to manually push several buttons every time I turn it on to get the setting I want. However, when I was cleaning my Yamaha, I rubbed so hard (sideways) on the keys to clean them, 5 of them stopped working. So I will tolerate this Casio since it is touch sensitive and OK for learning. If I learn to play well however, I will upgrade to an 88 key weighted keyboard. I slightly prefer the touch of the keys of the Casio against the Yamaha because the Yamaha seemed to require a softer touch which made me feel totally odd on a real piano (once you‘re used to playing with a softer touch).

Quik-Lok M-91 Monolith Single-Tier Keyboard Stand Review

Quik-Lok M-91 Monolith Single-Tier Keyboard Stand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this stand because I need space for a volume pedal, sustain pedal, and rotary speaker effect on the floor, so the "X" style stands don't work for me. I have been using the "Z" style, but it took a long time to set up. This opens up immediately and is heavy duty. The only tradeoff is that it makes it somewhat awkward to carry, especially if you're not too tall. I put a bungee cord between the legs to keep them from swinging around. There is a little side-to-side play when it is all set up. I also bought the M-92 upper tier separately, and it seems they may have had different versions. The stand has a nut in the bottom of the frame while the second tier has the threads on the side. There was also no tool to adjust the second tier in the kit, but I found a couple metric screws, m8 x1.25 thread and the star drive screwdriver at the hardware store to complete my set up. So far so good.

Casio MIDI Cable for Musical Keyboards Review

Casio MIDI Cable for Musical Keyboards

Neither this listing nor Casio's web site mention if this cable includes an opto-isolator. Without it, you could have problems communicating between MIDI gear and your PC.
Look around for MIDI-to-PC cables that have an opto-isolator. They aren't any more expensive, and they could save you a lot of time and headache.

Finale SongWriter Review

Finale SongWriter
Average Reviews:

...in his head! (Well actually he probably had the several hundred dollar professional version of Finale). This is fantastic software, perfect for the beginner or amateur songwriter or arranger. The only drawback for me is the limit of 8 staves, but that would not be a problem for your typical band, only if you want to try orchestral composition and arranging (you would need the professional version). The Human Playback feature is great, it truly sounds realistic, not like MIDI. I cannot recommend this software enough!

While Finale SongWriter makes it easy to create great sheet music at an affordable price, that's just the beginning. Finale SongWriter allows you to enter notes from a mouse, computer keyboard, or midi keyboard. You can add chord symbols, fretboard diagrams, and multiple verses of lyrics. Finale SongWriter can automatically add two and three voice harmony to your melodies and instantly add a drum part. The music you create sounds great through your computer's speakers thanks to Human Playback and 128 professional sounds. You can import and export MIDI files, create MP3 files, and save your work as a standard Finale file which can also be shared with users of Finale Notepad (a free download). If getting music on the printed page is part of your songwriting project, Finale SongWriter is the perfect collaborator.

Propellerhead Reason Premium Edition Review

Propellerhead Reason Premium Edition
Average Reviews:

The pianos are amazing!! I have no need for the bass or drums, but they also sound great. I have been writing music with Reason 2.0 to 3.0 for years and love its intuitive layout and functionality. This premium edition is a GREAT deal for those of you who want some very real sounding piano, bass, and drums. The already included samples with the Reason program itself are also pretty amazing for the price.
For the amount of diversity in sound and effects this program is the easiest programs to learn how to use.
I love it and use it everyday.
