M-Audio SP-1 US65000 Sustain Pedal for Keyboards Review

M-Audio SP-1 US65000 Sustain Pedal for Keyboards
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The M-Audio SP-1 US65000 is a sturdy and solid pedal. The case is metal, not plastic, so it'll hold up well over time. The rubber pads on the top and bottom keep it from moving around, though the pads have a tendency to come loose.
The main reliability issue with the pedal is the low-cost construction inside. Instead of having the pedal actuate a switch inside, there's just a stiff bare wire that presses down against another bare wire to make contact. It works and is cheaper to manufacture than using a real switch. However, if the pedal goes unused for a few days, oxidation forms on the bare wire, which results in unreliable contact and flaky pedal response. Depressing the pedal a dozen or more times clears off the oxidation. If it doesn't, opening the pedal and cleaning the wire resolves any inconsistent/noisy pedal signals.
If you're handy with a soldering iron, replacing the pseudo-switch with a real momentary contact switch would yield a really great pedal.

Yamaha Survival Kit for Yamaha PSR-E Keyboards Review

Yamaha Survival Kit for Yamaha PSR-E Keyboards

The item came as advertised, and in time for the holiday. Really cheap headphones included, but bundled packages tend to have junkie fluff items just to satisfy the 'value' shopper. Buyer beware, but also to be expected. However the pedal will not be a high-endurance item either. Basically, if you can find this kit for the price of the charger, treat the rest as bonus items.

Casio AD-1 Power Supply for SA75 Review

Casio AD-1 Power Supply for SA75
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Amazon's advertising for the Casio AD-1 Power Supply is a little confusing because the transformer appears with its correct model number AD-1 along with text that indicates it's for the Casio SA-75 keyboard. However, above that line of text it also appears as image next to a picture of the Casio SA-76, with a plus sign between them suggesting that they go together. Unfortunately, the jack end of the Casio AD-1 power supply doesn't fit into the DC 9.5 volt port on the back of the SA-76 keyboard, so I couldn't use it.
I contacted the seller and they told me the correct transformer for the Casio SA-76 electronic keyboard won't be available from Casio until December.

Yamaha PSRE403KIT PSR-E403 61-KEY Midi Portable Grand Yamaha Keyboard With Survival Accessory Kit B Review

Yamaha PSRE403KIT PSR-E403 61-KEY Midi Portable Grand Yamaha Keyboard With Survival Accessory Kit B
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I don't know much about music, but after tinkering around with "Virtual Piano 2.0" I decided to give the real thing a try.
Browsing online I saw that there were literally dozens of different keyboards out there, many at affordable entry-level prices. So what made me pick this one?
PROS--
EXTRA FEATURES: Sure, you could buy a real basic model for less, but sooner or later you're going to wish you had a few extra sound effects and knobs to tweak. The Yamaha has a nice display with a blue back-light, which makes it easy to see which note you're playing.
SOUND: Plug in some Bose 2 Quiet Comfort headphones (worth every penny, believe me) and you can bang on your keyboard all you want without disturbing whoever is next door to you. The sounds and sound effects that this keyboard produces are really amazing, everything from pianos to church organs to brass, world sounds, guitars, choirs, drums and special effects.
NITPICKINGS--
SIZE: Call me naive, but I thought it would be a little bit smaller, like small enough to fit in a large footlocker. Not quite. Fortunately the box is pretty good if you toss in some extra foam when you ship it. I wouldn't really call this keyboard portable, though. As much as I'd like to bring it to work I'd consider it too much of a hassle and just leave it where it is.
EASE OF USE: The basic actions like playing the keyboard itself and selecting a "voice" to use is really straightforward. However, other actions like transferring data to and from the keyboard to your PC is still a puzzle to me (granted I haven't tinkered with this that much). And as I'm still a beginner, there are lots of functions I have no clue what they do or how to use them, which is good in a way, because that leaves you something to discover later on, giving your keyboard more "replay value".
CONS--
ACCESSORIES: About the only thing that might turn you off is the fact that you need to buy the power adapter, headphones, USB cables to plug into your PC and foot pedal all separately. Or you can just buy a Survival Kit (which comes with a foot pedal that didn't work, cheap Koss headphones, a CD and the all-important power adapter. So whatever the price of this keyboard, make sure you factor in all the accessories you, unfortunately, need to buy separately.
OVERALL--
As this is my first keyboard, I have nothing to compare it to, but I feel like I got my money's worth and I'd definitely say it's worth 4 stars out of 5.

Yamaha PSR-E323 61-key Touch Sensitive Portable Keyboard with 482 Voices Review

Yamaha PSR-E323 61-key Touch Sensitive Portable Keyboard with 482 Voices
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I would describe this keyboard as perfect for the adult beginner. The touch sensitive keys are like a real piano the harder you hit them the louder the sound. Your notes are displayed on a display to the upper left of the main display panel.. you can actually see the note you just played on a line of sheet music.
Add the low cost and great sound it adds up to a good keyboard.
The Cons? The keyboard does not come with an AC adapter or a sustain pedal, retail that's only about $30, but I would expect to find them included when you consider the fact that it won't work without a power supply.. (Batteries, be serious)
All in all, I would recommend it.

Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Foot Controller with Two Expression Pedals Review

Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Foot Controller with Two Expression Pedals
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use it to control my Line6 PODxt, and they work perfectly together if you download the proper bank settings for the job, or you set up your own, which is a pain in the foot (literally) if you do it "manually". I found a
software app in a FCB yahoo group that allows you to set it up using your computer, which is great.
I've used it to control my Korg Karma keyboard as well, and even to control my Sonar 5 Production (to start/stop recording for instance). All fine.
In short, the product works very well for what it's meant to. You might need to get your hands a bit dirty with
the setting-up, but once you understand how it works you'll realize you could even control your microwave oven with
this if it had a MIDI IN port :O)

Yamaha EZ Portable Keyboard Review

I first saw this item on that home shopping channel and the lady that was displaying it was as giddy as a school girl. I have to admit it did look really fun. My mom always wanted to learn to play the piano and I wanted to buy it a couple of years ago, but it was a bit expensive. We were recently out Christmas shopping and I dragged her over to it and said you HAVE to try this (she thought I was crazy since she can't play)....she CRIED! She was so happy that she could actually play (greensleeves) that she cried and giggled. I had to tell her six times that we needed to go. She wouldn't let go! So, obviously this will be her Christmas present this year. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any music enthusiast.

Hello spiritual family,
This instrument was played using many sounds and recorded. I then went far away (downstairs) and turned the instrument down low before doing so. This is how I test the quality of the truthfullnes of the note and tones from far away. I heard all the notes I played and the tone sounded very much the same. If it were any quieter I only would not hear it, I mean its excellently clear from far away and a joy to any one that is in the other room (perhaps). This instrument might have been $200, but now it is only $99.00. New ahl sound technology. If you can find it for lower its even a better deal. It has synthesizer sounds like voice 306 too. Reverb can be put up to ten and its very noticeable, even from a far distance. And it has a piano style not shown in the picture! The pants of the keys can be seen the lower shelf if cut and it looks like a wooden piano from the over all view.

The ability to play a musical instrument has been associated with enhancing cognitive potential. It helps stimulate creativity and is lots of fun. With the Casio CTK-2000 music keyboard it's easy to untap your potential. Using Casio's Step-up Lesson system, songs are divided into short, easy-to-master phrases making it easy for just about anyone to learn to play. After you master a phrase you advance to the next one. With this new lesson function, you keep building up your collection of mastered phrases and soon you are able to play the entire song. If the keyboard senses you are having problems, it will help you by calling out finger numbers in a simulated human voice. It features an easy-to-play keyboard with an appearance resembling that of an acoustic piano. Your lesson score appears on the display screen. All built-in AHL tones, including piano and acoustic instrument tones, now sound better than ever before! 48-tone maximum polyphony provides plenty of margin to minimize the chance of notes being dropped when tones are layered and when playing with Auto Accompaniment. Sample a sound and you can play it on the keyboard! You can create sound effects for a party or other events, or use sounds to compose music. The potential for fun is virtually unlimited! Sample sound from an audio device plugged into the Audio In jack (You can sample a favorite phrase from a track on a digital audio player, a drum sound, a person's voice, the sound of a pet, or just about any other sound you want)! I bought this because the first set of batteries wore out quickly, and there are three of us that use the metronome. The kids use it to time their practice and as a metronome, I use it for teaching piano. So I thought I would save money on batteries by buying the adapter. Mostly what I have found that where I need to use the metronome, I either don't have access to a plug or just don't want to bother. And unless you are putting your metronome in one place and leaving it, don't bother with buying this adapter.

Cardioid Dynam Handheld/stan M Review

Cardioid Dynam Handheld/stan M
Average Reviews:

I own several Audio Technica microphones and accessories in my recording studio and even though I don't have a PRO63 among my gear, I'm sure this item follows the same quality standards as all their other products. What one must bear in mind is that this is a DYNAMIC microphone, so it's ideal for recording instrument cabinets or even loud vocals. In order to record acoustic instruments one must employ a CONDENSER micrphone, which has a wider frequency response (it's highly sensitive) making it susceptible to even the faintest sounds. For those who need to record acoustic instruments such as violins, acoustic guitars, mandolins, etc, I recommend the Audix Fusion 15 Mic. I have two of them in my studio, they're affordable and produce wonderful results!

Average Reviews:

Plugged-in it worked right out the package. Very cool to finally use a kybd with iphone app too.
I'd give it 5 stars.......but for one omission in the design - a big one imo.;
as I worked on file I wondered how the iphone battery was doing. The app I use is rather hard on power. That's when it occurred to me that there's no way to run this device except on battery power. It uses the same port. Never thought of that before.
One may think that an hour or so is plenty, but that aspect still needs to be noted here I think.
Not sure why line6 didn't add a usb port for power at bottom of device. Or power jack. Maybe they were concerned about hanging too much weight off the bottom of iphone/pad/pod? Whatever the reason, charge-up good before starting a bigger project. Or wait for the snythstation25 product. I believe that one has power at the docking jack. Apps will start appearing for it in the next couple months I've read.
Other than that, again, very cool.
Cheers.

Samson C02 Stereo Pair Condenser Microphones Review

Samson C02 Stereo Pair Condenser Microphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
[Edited for usefulness on 11/15]
I can't bring myself to be super-critical of the Samson C02, because in spite of my occasional dissatisfaction it does have a lot going for it. I've had my pair for about a year, and I use them frequently as overheads on the drum kit, on acoustic guitar, and as "room sound" mics for vocals.
For the latter two applications they are adequate, or at least I can't complain. Unfortunately as drum overheads they have been disappointing, and this is what I primarily wanted to use them for. To my ears they sound a little thin and lack presence and clarity, especially on cymbals. I like the overheads to get a detailed overall picture of the drum kit, so that's a drag. Another bummer is that there are no switches on the mic - something like a bass cut or -10dB pad would have been nice. Without a pad switch, putting this mic under a snare drum is a recipe for disaster. Or maybe you could just ask the drummer to play quieter?
So I guess when it comes to small-diaphragm condensers I still haven't found what I'm looking for. The bad news is that the $400-$700 price bracket is apparently where I have to look next. On most of my projects over the last year I have been able to use a famous similar type of microphone made by AKG, and the comparison is not exactly flattering. Of course, a pair of AKG's "Microphone X" costs about ten times what you're looking at here. And maybe we've come to the root of why it's hard for me to say a lot of nasty things about my Samson CO2s. They are so, so cheap for what you get, namely: a pair of condenser mics, two mini shock-mount/mic clips, two windscreens, and a sturdy, padded plastic carrying case. My griping aside, these things do a borderline-acceptable job as overheads, and in other applications (such as acoustic guitar) they are quite useful. I would probably recommend them to beginning engineers, people on a recession budget, or to anyone looking to keep a couple of budget mics on hand. More serious project studios and home recordists might want to save up for something a little nicer.

Samson C02 Condenser mics let you capture and record all the ambience and dynamic depth of acoustic guitars, piano, overhead drums, acoustic instruments, and vocals - in stereo! C02 microphones can be used either individually or in pairs for stereo recordings, neck and sound hole placement for miking acoustic guitars, and low/high octave placement in acoustic pianos. The C02 is an extremely sensitive cardioid condenser (10mv/pa) with an expanded frequency response of 40Hz to 20kHz and a maximum SPL of 134dB. What's all this mean? It means that the C02 delivers professional performance at an incredible price and will make a dramatic difference in every recording. C02s are shipped in pairs with shock mounts and a molded, foam-lined carrying case. 48volt phantom power required.

Once I got it i was in love with it, then I realized that a few of the bottom screws were loose, which required me to take out all of the pegs and tighten them, and then re-tune the whole thing.

Kalimba. Origin Country: India. 2.1 lbs. Made by Mid-East.
Kalimba, flat natural finish 4" x 7", 8 steel keys. The thumb piano originates in Africa. It is also known as the mbira or likembe. The metal keys are mounted on a wooden box that acts as the resonating chamber. To play, rest the thumb piano on the fingers of both hands and hold it between your palms. Several reeds or tines are plucked with the thumb or fingers, and the reed vibrations are amplified by a hollow box resonator or a sounding board. Many different tunings are acceptable, according to personal preference. The tuning is subjective and should only be pleasing to the player. The longer keys have lower pitches and shorter keys have higher pitches. The keys can be adjusted by tapping them in or out to adjust their length, and therefore their pitch.
