This kalimba sits in our livingroom and when it isn't being used its job is to 'sit pretty'. The 'tines' aren't exactly tuned very carefully, when they move you have to sort of tune it again but it does have a good chimy sound. (When we first got it the sound made my dog think someone rang the doorbell and she'd run to the door!) This is a good 'starter kalimba' for fun, not for the serious percussion music enthusiast.

Thisbeautifully crafted sea turtle shaped Karimba (also knows as a kalimba,Mbira or Thumb Piano) is hand made from a coconut shell, with the legs, tail and head hand carved from Indonesian Albessia wood.Metal keys are suspended above the acoustic chamber and when pluckedwith the fingers or thumbs make a delightfully rich note.Thisgorgeous mbira is great for use as a decoration, and makes a greateducational gift for children. NOTE: Because these are hand-carved,there may be slight differences in design from the pictures. Theyalsovary in size based on the size of the coconut used but they are about 9to 10 inches long.
